ABOUT

On land… is all about the interconnections between art, science, culture and the natural world. As a professional horticulturalist, I’m interested in the physiology and morphology of plants but as a historian I want to know why? And who? And what?

Having spent over fifteen years teaching horticulture in further and higher education, I would be lying if I didn’t admit that I was, at times, frustrated by the constraints of a syllabus. Horticulture is such a vast subject which often begins with a simple love of plants then dives headlong into the science of growing, the art of plant combinations and the well-being benefits of walking through forests. If you’re as lucky as I am, you might get an opportunity to spend some time studying one aspect you’re really interested in. For me, it was garden and landscape history.

On land… is really just an excuse to go off at a whole load of different tangents and explore all the other really interesting stuff that’s connected with the land.
